All About Me
Hi everybody and welcome to my little slice of the Internet!
My name is Alexis Bellvue and I'm a stay-at-home mom with a really interesting life! I met my husband Rhett when we were in college together in Ohio. It's so funny because even though we were both studying technology, we were radically different people and our paths never would have crossed! I loved spending time with my friends and I spent most of my weekends out at the local lakes and rivers going fishing with my friends and family. I grew up in the area and I loved having that built-in network of support. Rhett was much quieter and more interested in solitude, he loved the outdoors and hiking too, but he was brand new to the area and nervous about reaching out to make friends who'd go with him. He chose to stay in and study some nights! Crazy, right?
Luckily for him (and me!) we both befriended the same person: Lucy. She was in a bunch of classes with him and she just so happened to be my freshman-year roommate that ended up being my best friend. When we were sophomores, she set us up on a blind date and the year after we graduated I made her the maid of honor at our wedding. It was only fair.
We both got wonderful jobs after graduation so we could stay in Ohio, which was wonderful for me because all my family is here and it meant a lot to me that I could start my adult life with them close by. This was especially helpful when my children, Kennedy and Riley, were born and I needed to lean on the support of my family to help juggle child care, healthy dinners, and all that comes with growing a family.
All was well, but when I was laid off from the job I'd adored and put all my time into since graduating college, my husband and I sat down and had a conversation about our future. As much as we loved our home in Ohio, it was too small for our family's needs and even though I'd loved my job, my husband hadn't found his perfect fit. He felt that he wasn't getting as much as he truly deserved here. So, we decided Rhett would start applying for jobs all over the country and I'd stay home with the kids in the meantime. Luckily, we didn't have to wait too long because his dream company in Maine reached out and offered him a job barely a month later. We barely had to discuss it, it was an obvious YES!
So Rhett and I got Kennedy and Riley all packed up and moved them to Maine. Rhett started his new job and we decided to save on childcare costs (can you believe how expensive daycare is?!?!) by having me be a stay-at-home mom. I considered getting a job when we moved out here, but everything I was qualified for only paid enough to cover daycare for two people so we made the best decision for our family. Plus, on the first day of Rhett's job, I took the kids out to the pet store so they could each pick out a small pet to live with us in our new house. That's how we added Charlie the beta fish (Kennedy's choice) and our cat named Tobi (Riley's pick) to the family. It was love at first sight and I think it helped the kids feel more at home to let their new pet stay in their room with them. Between the new pets and all the fun crafts we've been doing together, I think the kids are loving this new arrangement.
Honestly, I thought I'd be worried about moving so far away from my family, but Rhett, Kennedy, Riley, and I have been loving it here. Our home is surrounded by nature, we are all able to go fishing and hiking together as a family on weekends and truly explore the natural beauty Maine offers! We haven't lived here long, but we plan to make the most of it and turn this town into our new home.
